A&L Goodbody recognised for collaboration with Irish Refugee Council
A&L Goodbody has won recognition at the Chambers Ireland CSR Awards for its collaborative project with the Irish Refugee Council (IRC) independent law centre.
The firm was named winner in the Excellence in Marketplace category for its work helping to provide early legal advice to asylum seekers since 2013.
With limited civil legal aid and capacity constraints within the law centre, the firm leverages its size to greatly increase asylum seekers’ access to legal services, helping to draft personal statements and legal submissions as well as attending applicants’ interviews.
To date, A&L Goodbody has worked with 52 clients through the partnership and successfully reunited seven families. In 2019 so far, 16 asylum seekers have been assisted through the project.
Managing partner Julian Yarr said: “I was so proud to be at the Chambers Ireland CSR Awards and see our firm recognised as one of the true leaders of corporate responsibility in Ireland.
“Our responsible business initiatives are right at the centre of our culture and who we are. To find ourselves in the company of such large international corporates is quite an achievement. It reflects our goal to be recognised internationally as a leader in corporate responsibility.”
