Aisling Timoney joins multi-profession health regulator
Healthcare solicitor Aisling Timoney has been appointed as a member of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (CORU) for a four-year term.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly announced four appointments to the multi-profession health regulator to run until 18 November 2024 following a public recruitment process.
Ms Timoney has over eight years’ experience as a healthcare solicitor and has a particular interest in, and specialist knowledge of, professional regulation.
She has spent a considerable amount of her career analysing and advising on the legal, regulatory and ethical issues and challenges faced by healthcare professionals. She has led on corporate governance and risk management issues, in addition to contributing to strategic projects and change management initiatives.
Currently a senior in-house solicitor at Medisec Ireland, Ms Timoney advises general practitioner members on a number of issues including claims, Medical Council complaints, ethical queries, coroners’ inquests and HSE investigations.
As a member of Medisec’s senior management team, she also leads ongoing strategic reviews and business development projects and is responsible for the GDPR compliance of Medisec’s risk register.
Ms Timoney previously worked as a solicitor at Hayes Solicitors and Matheson Healthcare. She also worked as an in in-house legal advisor at the Medical Council of Ireland.
She completed her LLB in Trinity College Dublin and the Université Panthéon-Assass in Paris. She also holds qualifications in professional regulation, finance law and is an accredited investigator.
She is also a member of the Medico-Legal Society of Ireland and the International Association of Privacy Professionals. She is the editor of On Call magazine and is a regular contributor of legal updates through articles to external publications and nationwide speaking engagements.
