And finally… a fine mess
A man racked up over €40,000 in motoring fines in under four hours after racing through the streets in a hired Lamborghini.
The man, believed to be a British and in his early 20s, rented the Huracan sports car while holidaying in Dubai, The Times reports.
Mohammed Ibrahim, who owns the hire company, tried in vain to contact the driver as he received a deluge of automatic texts from Dubai’s fine system.
Speaking afterwards, he said: “The fines kept coming. They just kept coming and coming.”
Twelve of the fines were for exceeding 200 kilometres per hour, with a top speed of 240 kilometres per hour on Sheikh Zayed Road.
The rest were for speeding between 150 and 200 kilometres per house.
Mr Ibrahim has launched a civil court case against the driver, who is still in Dubai, to recover the 175,000 dirham (€41,087) in fines.
