And finally… beagle recourse
A local police force urged residents to get “a barking, biting dog” for protection after announcing it did not have enough money to enforce the law.
In a Facebook post, Sheriff John Kirk of Martin County in the US state of Kentucky warned: “Law enforcement as we have known for the last four years will not exist.”
The sheriff explained that his office was “broke” due to the mismanagement of the “fiscal court” - the Kentucky name for county councils.
A funding grant of $75,000 from the fiscal court is overdue, he said.
He concluded: “We have no one to blame but some of our former fiscal court for the poor management of our tax dollars. POOR MANAGEMENT is what got us in this mess.
“FOLKS, LOCK YOUR DOORS, LOAD YOUR GUNS AND GET YOU A BARKING, BITING DOG. If the sheriff’s office can’t protect you, WHO WILL?”
