And finally… been there, done that
The man who attempted to assassinate Ronald Reagan in 1981 has apparently disavowed the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.
John Hinckley Jr, who was released from psychiatric care in 2022, wrote in a social media post following the attack: “Violence is not the way to go. Give peace a chance.”
Hinckley was charged with attempted murder after targeting Reagan but was controversially found not guilty by reason of insanity by a jury in 1982.
The trial heard that Hinckley, then 25, had shot at Reagan in order to impress actress Jodie Foster while suffering from mental illness.
Since his release from psychiatric care, Hinckley has worked to establish a career as a folk musician and an artist.
Trump survived an assassination attempt by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks on Saturday.
