Men who let their trousers sag so low that their bottoms show will be liable for a $600 fine in one small South Carolina town.
Councillors agreed to put the wearing of “pants, trousers, or shorts such that the known undergarments are intentional displayed/exposed” on par with public nudity and displaying pornography.
Mayor Pro Tem William James, Jr said the new ordinance, passed 5-1, was motivated by integrity and self-respect.
Violations of the rules will result in a verbal warning in the first instance.
On the second instance, offenders will be given a written warning and have their name listed in a law enforcement registry.
On the third offence, a citation will be issues along with a fine of at least $100 and up to $600 - between £77 (€90) and £464 (€542).
