Bella Nilsson, chief executive of now-defunct waste management business NMT Think Pink, is accused along with 11 others of dumping or burying 200,000 tonnes of waste between 2015 and 2020, the BBC reports.

Both Nilsson, a former film star who has since changed her name to Fariba Vancor, and her co-defendants deny any wrongdoing.

According to prosecutors, the way in which Think Pink disposed of waste endangered “health of humans, animals and plant life”.

In one case, a mountain of waste allegedly left near a nature reserve caught fire and burned for two months.

Think Pink declared bankruptcy shortly after Nilsson’s arrest in 2020.

A number of Swedish councils who used the company’s services are seeking up to 260 million kronor in damages (around €22.8 million or £19.2 million).
