A roadside temple in honour of Hanuman, the monkey god, was allegedly built illegally on government land in the Rohtas district of Bihar.

A summons was issued after the Public Works Department filed a case against the temple, but it was mistakenly addressed to the Hindu god instead of the temple’s managers.

To make matters more bizarre, the summons was pasted onto the statue itself.

A fresh summons was issued yesterday.

The local magistrate Pankaj Patel clarified to the court: “Neither a notice can be sent to God nor God can be asked to appear in the court.”
