And finally… dog’s life

Sniffer dogs are to be recruited in Greece to sniff out potential tax dodgers who try to take cash out of the crisis-hit country.

The Finance Ministry said it would be constructing a team to assess tenders for the provision of dogs tasked with detecting cash.

More than 50 billion Euros were withdrawn from Greek banks last year, after fears that the economic crisis the country was facing would see them crash out of the Euro.

Tax evasion is still thought to be rife in Greece and the dogs will be used to crack down on the 15 billion euros being hoarded by Greeks outside the banking system.

Authorities will recruit preferably German Shepherds, Labradors or Belgian Melinois, however a pedigree is not necessary.
