Donald Fitzroy Meikle told police that his wife Dawn elbowed him as he passed gas before eventually pushing him out of bed.

He then began passing gas again at which point she started kicking him.

Mr Meikle said he held her down to protect her but she suffered a broken lip and scratches.

She then called 911.

Police said she released pepper spray in the bathroom to prevent her husband from entering it. Mrs Meikle was arrested for domestic battery and taken to the local jail.
