And finally… from Russia with love
A region in Russia refused to accept divorce applications on its equivalent of Valentine’s Day last week.
Authorities in Novgorod said that no applications would be accepted on Peter and Fevronia Day, which sees people celebrate family and faithfulness.
The saints Peter and Fevronia are Orthodox marriage patrons.
Other regions in Russia also took part in “no divorce day”, calling on couples to delay applications for dissolution of their marriages until this week.
However, a spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church said that “pressure and a refusal to change people’s marital status is not the best tool”.
