A company which tried to pay a roughly £20,000 settlement in coins weighing nearly three tonnes has been rebuked by a judge.
The Colorado-based company delivered a custom-made metal box containing coins worth $23,500 (around £20,000) to the offices of a law firm representing a subcontractor following a dispute between them.
The box, which required a forklift to be moved, was too heavy even for the freight elevator at the firm’s offices, WRIC-TV reports.
Judge Joseph Findley said the company “acted maliciously and in bad faith” by delivering the coins and ordered the company to write a cheque.
This cheque would now also have to cover an extra $8,092 (£6,700) in legal fees, he added.
