And finally… national affront
The founder and ex-leader of France’s far-right National Front party has launched legal proceedings against a young man who he says sabotaged the party’s election campaign by taking an unflattering picture of him.
Jean-Marie Le Pen, the father of National Front leader Marine Le Pen, has launched a damages claim for €50,000 against Brahim Zaibat.
Zaibat took a selfie with the French politician while he was sleeping on a plane journey, before uploading it to Facebook and amassing almost 200,000 likes.
The caption called on French people to vote against the National Front in the second round of France’s regional elections, where the party went on to win no regions.
Le Pen has now alleged the photo “harmed his image and was instrumental in the defeat of the party”.
He is also demanding an apology from Zaibat.
The first court hearing will take place on Friday 22 January 2016.
