And finally… near, far, wherever you are
Authorities have been urged to crack down on so-called “siren kings” who fit out their cars with dozens of gigantic speakers and compete to see who can play music the loudest.
Residents of Porirua, New Zealand have petitioned their local government to intervene and stop the “siren battles” taking place in the middle of the night.
Céline Dion songs are popular choices for the battles, including remixes which have apparently proven unpopular with locals, The Guardian reports.
Mayor Anita Baker said: “They play half a song and tweak it on their things and make a screeching noise so it is not like you’re even listening to good music. I don’t mean to be awful but it’s not even a complete song.”
Ms Baker insisted she is working with police and local authorities to deal with the problem, including by facilitating legal siren battles in industrial areas during daytime.
