The previous code, adopted in 2012, included references to offences of “bribery and corruption” with no statute of limitations.

However, corruption does not appear in the latest code of ethics for football’s global governing body.

It does mention “bribery, misappropriation of funds and match manipulation”, but introduces a 10-year statute of limitations for them.

It also introduces a new offence of “defamation”, whereby those bound by the code “are forbidden from making any public statements of a defamatory nature towards FIFA and/or towards any other person bound by this code”.

Those who defame FIFA can be banned from football activities for up to two years and up to five years in repeat cases.
