Instead of being arrested for breaking and entering, the young kangaroo was bundled away by animal rescuers and taken to a nearby shelter.

Resident Mafi Ahokavo, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, told 9News he had never even seen a kangaroo before in his life.

He was stunned when he, his partner and his three-year-old son were awoken by the noise of the marsupial breaking in.

Ahokavo managed to lock the kangaroo in the bathroom before calling the police.
