And finally… taking the piss
Humans have as much a right as wild animals to urinate in the sea, a German judge has ruled.
In an unusually poetic judgment, a district judge in the northern German city of Lübeck overturned a €60 fine imposed on a man who relieved himself on the beach late at night during a sailing festival.
“The human has, under the vast expanses of heaven, no fewer rights than the deer in the forest, the rabbit in the field or the seal in the shallows of the Baltic Sea,” Judge Felix Spangenberg said.
He also pointed out that the man was “at best only vaguely visible” to passers-by and that public urination is “socially accepted” in the context of nature, such as during hikes, the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The judge added: “That’s just how it is on the coast.”
