And finally… winging it
A senior Mexican politician has raised eyebrows after ritually sacrificing a chicken in the country’s senate building.
Senator Adolfo Gómez Hernández is facing disciplinary action or potentially prosecution over the ritual sacrifice, which he said was constitutionally protected as a tradition of Mexico’s indigenous people, Mexico News Daily reports.
The sacrifice to Tláloc, the Aztec god of rain, was staged amid a devastating drought in Mexico.
In a statement, the president of the Mexican Senate said she “does not support in any way the events that occurred”.
She added that she “had previously communicated to the aforementioned senator the express refusal to authorise the entry of any type of animal into the building, in accordance with the current security and civil protection protocols”.
