A man dressed head-to-toe as the furry Star Wars character was fined 170 hryvnia (around £5) for failing to produce ID when driving Darth Vader - a local election candidate - to a polling station in Odessa.

It is a minor offence compared to some of the allegations dogging the Eastern European country’s latest round of local elections.

The surreal moment when four officers struggled to arrest the would-be Wookiee was captured on video and uploaded to the Internet.

Chewbacca later appeared in court in his full costume.
