Aoife Beary named as lead plaintiff in Berkeley collapse case

21-year-old student Aoife Beary has been named as the lead plaintiff in the US lawsuit over the Berkeley balcony collapse.

Attorneys agreed to name Ms Beary, at whose 21st birthday party the incident occurred, as lead plaintiff in the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda this week.

An attorney at US law firm Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger is set to fly to Ireland in the coming weeks to meet with survivors.

Michael A Kelly told Judge Brad Seligman that all of the survivors had returned to Ireland and some were still receiving medical attention.

His firm is representing the survivors and all but one of the victims’ families.

At the hearing, Judge Seligman approved a case management order calling for attorneys to open discovery by late May.

He advised advised attorneys to come to him or the court’s three settlement judges to settle any disputes as they arise.
