NI: At least 43 same-sex couples married in UK and Ireland in 2016

At least 43 same-sex couples from Northern Ireland were married south of the border or in Great Britain in 2016, according to new figures.
Same-sex marriage is illegal in Northern Ireland, whereas it is allowed in all other parts of the UK and in the Republic.
Figures obtained by BBC News show that 27 same-sex couples from north of the border were married in the Republic in 2016, as well as 11 in Scotland and five in England and Wales.
The figures are believed to be understated as some couples do not provide their Northern Ireland address to the marriage registrar.
When married same-sex couples return to Northern Ireland, their marriages are recognised only as civil partnerships.
