Belfast solicitor Shannon Gawley joins EYBA executive committee
Belfast solicitor Shannon Gawley has been elected to the executive committee of the European Young Bar Association (EYBA).
Ms Gawley is a solicitor in the commercial team at Carson McDowell who is currently on secondment to Invest NI. She is a graduate of Queen’s University Belfast and obtained her professional qualification from the Institute of Professional Legal Studies.
The EYBA’s summer conference and AGM was originally set to take place this year in Kyiv, but was moved to Strasbourg following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.
Commenting on her election, Ms Gawley told Irish Legal News: “I am delighted to be elected an executive officer of the European Young Bar Association.
“As an association representing over 200,000 young lawyers from across Europe, the EYBA is founded on key fundamental principles such as democracy, human rights, access to justice and the rule of law.
“The past few years have been a challenging time for many in the legal profession. As we continue to navigate through the implications of Brexit and Covid-19, these fundamental principles and the unified voice that the EYBA provides for young lawyers are crucial now more than ever.
“It is a great pleasure to represent the Northern Ireland Young Solicitors’ Association in promoting the interests, education and welfare of young lawyers across Europe, and I am looking forward to working with the new committee in the year ahead.”
