Belfast trainees to represent UK in environmental moot court competition
Trainee solicitors at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies (IPLS) will represent the UK in the Florida finals of the prestigious Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition next month.
The team comprises Warren Polly, who is training with Gateley Legal Northern Ireland; Caitriona Fitzpatrick, Maclaine & Co Solicitors; and Harry Robinson, Phoenix Law.
Organised by the Institute of Biodiversity Law and Policy of Stetson University, the Stetson Moot Court Competition focuses on important global environmental challenges and has been bringing together law students from universities all over the globe since 1996.
After competing in the UK and Ireland regional rounds, which included a written submission in November 2023 and an oral advocacy in Dublin in February 2024, the team will now represent the IPLS and UK in the 28th Annual International Finals in Gulfport, Florida which is taking place from 10-13 April 2024.
Following the regional rounds, Mr Polly said: “It’s an absolute honour to be representing both the UK and the IPLS in this international competition. I’m really enjoying the experience alongside my teammates, and I am very grateful for the support that my Gateley Legal NI colleagues have shown us.
“We are also extremely thankful for all the training and coaching provided by barristers Thomas Stewart and Ben Lowry, whose expertise in guiding us and developing our skills has been invaluable.”
