Bill Holohan to start PhD programme this summer
Bill Holohan, senior partner at Holohan Lane, is set to commence a PhD doctorate programme organised by the Law Society of Ireland and University of Northumbria this summer.
He joked that he is a “glutton for punishment”, having just completed the two-year Master’s in Advanced Legal Practice offered through the collaboration between the Law Society and Northumbria Law School.
Staff at Holohan Lane are encouraged to pursue further study and curriculum development, he told Irish Legal News.
In addition to the PhD programme, Mr Holohan is currently completing the Law Society Certificate in Professional Education.
He said: “Having been teaching in the Law School for the past 30 years, I am on an absolutely fascinating and engaging course learning how to do it properly. I would thoroughly recommend the Law Society Certificate Course to every practitioner.
“It’s not just a question of learning how to teach others, but learning and communication skills which are vital for engaging with clients. Even an old dog like myself can learn new tricks.”
Solicitor Alan Raftery, who joined the firm last year, has a Master’s in Medical Negligence and has now taken responsibility for personal injuries in the practice.
