Calcutta Run proceeds presented to charities
The Law Society of Ireland has presented cheques for €90,000 to two charities following a fundraising effort at this year’s Calcutta Run.
Stuart Gilhooly, president of the Law Society, handed the cheques to homelessness charity the Peter McVerry Trust and humanitarian charity GOAL at a ceremony in the House of Lords, Bank of Ireland.
Over 1,200 members of the legal profession took part in the 2016 Calcutta Run in May to raise €180,000, which will support the charities’ work tackling homelessness in Dublin and in Kolkata.
The run started and ended in the grounds of the Law Society of Ireland on Blackhall Place, Dublin.
