Callan Tansey Solicitors host award ceremony for essay winners

Callan Tansey Solicitors recently hosted an award ceremony to mark the 7th Annual Callan Tansey Essay Competition In Association with The Sligo Champion. The event which took place in The Hawk’s Well Theatre in Sligo recognised the talent of 5th/ 6th year students from schools in the Sligo and Roscommon Areas.

The title for the 2017 competition was a Yeats line from Sailing to Byzantium:

Caught in that sensual music all neglect

Monuments of unageing intellect

Students were asked to consider the question “Does our society believe that the old should even have a voice anymore; and what do we lose, if we lose something, when we dispense with the wisdom of the ages?”

Caroline McLaughlin, associate at Callan Tansey Solicitors told Irish Legal News: “The Callan Tansey Essay Competition recognises the talent of our local students. We were delighted through the essay topic this year to endorse Age Action whose mission is to to achieve a fundamental change in the lives of all older people.

“We extend our Congratulations to James Devanney (1st) Sligo Grammar School, Jane McGlinchey (2nd) and Niamh Lynch (3rd) both from Coola PPS. Our Highly Commended Awards sponsored by Liber Bookstore were presented to Mackenzie Ellwood, Mercy College and Alana Loftus, St. Attracta’s, Tubbercurry.

The 2018 Callan Tansey Essay Competition will be launched during Autumn 2017.
