Caroleann Gallagher to receive Irish diaspora award
Chicago lawyer Caroleann Gallagher is to receive an Irish diaspora award in Donegal next week.
Ms Gallagher, who grew up on Arranmore Island and was one of the first students to attend Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, qualified as a solicitor in Ireland in 2004 before later relocating to the US and becoming an attorney in Chicago, Illinois.
Her career has been primarily focussed on helping those hurt by the negligence of others. She has extensive experience representing the victims of medical negligence and nursing home abuse and neglect, as well as other catastrophic injuries.
She will be recognised by Donegal County Council next week when she is awarded one of the three 2024 Tip O’Neill Irish Diaspora Awards at an event in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel in Buncrana.
The awards are presented on an annual basis to chosen members of the broad Irish diaspora in recognition of achievements in their chosen field, and their interest in and support for Ireland and its diaspora.
Last year, Ms Gallagher launched an annual scholarship for Leaving Cert students of Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, providing assistance worth €3,000 to one student every year.
In Chicago, Ms Gallagher is also a board member and public relations officer for the Chicago Celtics Gaelic Football team and the Limerick Chicago Youth Hurling Club, for which both of her daughters play.
