Cathryn Costello named professor of refugee and migration law at Oxford
Legal academic Cathryn Costello, former director of the Irish Centre for European Law (ICEL), has been appointed as the Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Refugee and Migration Law at the University of Oxford.
Professor Costello is a leading scholar in international and European refugee and migration law. She currently leads an interdisciplinary team at the Refugee Studies Centre (RSC) at Oxford.
Her work focuses on refugee recognition and the global governance of refugee mobility, as well as co-editing the Oxford Handbook of International Refugee Law with Professors Jane McAdam and Michelle Foster.
Professor Costello began her academic career at TCD Law School and served as director of the Irish Centre for European Law from 2000 to 2003.
She was subsequently appointed as Francis Reynolds Fellow and Tutor in EU and Public Law at Worcester College, Oxford, a position which she held until joining the RSC in 2013 as Andrew W. Mellon Associate Professor in International Human Rights and Refugee Law.
She also holds a visiting Professor II post at the University of Oslo.
