Clyde & Co to close Derry office with no legal job losses

Global law firm Clyde & Co is to close its Derry office later this year, with staff to be given the option of either working remotely or from Belfast.

The firm, which specialises in insurance law, has had two offices in Northern Ireland since its merger with BLM in July 2022.

Around 15 people are based in Clyde & Co’s Derry office and around 50 in Belfast. The firm also has an office in Dublin.

A spokesperson told Irish Legal News: “As a large and successful global business, we regularly review the shape, size, and structure of our organisation to ensure we are best able to serve our clients’ changing needs, to deliver long term sustainable growth and profitability to allow for investment in our business and our people.

“Following a review, we have decided to close our office in Derry/Londonderry once its lease expires later this year.

“We have begun a consultation process with our people in Derry/Londonderry with the proposal being that the majority of our teams will work remotely, with the option to also spend time at our Belfast office which moved to new, larger premises in July 2023.

“We are offering support to colleagues impacted and can confirm that no legal roles are at risk. It would be inappropriate to comment further as the process is ongoing.”
