Co Mayo solicitors discuss community issues, mortgages and cybersecurity

It saw largely Mayo-based solicitors learn about the latest trends and changes across the legal landscape, with a strong focus on information that is relevant to the local area. The conference included specific sessions on topics ranging from farming and small business issues, to taxation, family law and the property purchase and sale process.

Conference chair James Ward, president of the Mayo Bar Association, said: “Local solicitors are on the frontline of many of life’s big moments. We are routinely advising and representing our clients on major decisions that need to be made in business, during challenging family law matters, or when buying or selling a home or farm.

“While our professional advice and experience is sought, it is crucial that as a profession we have a high standard of knowledge and are able to tap into the expertise of our peers from around the nation.

“The recent cyber attack on SuperValu, Centra and Daybreak has brought the issue of cybercrime into sharp focus, and no one should be complacent about cybersecurity. This conference was crucial in bringing our local solicitors up-to-date with the latest knowledge and prevention advice so they can protect confidential data and continue to support the local community.

“The conference is our local members opportunity to hear from some of the country’s leadin experts on a range of legal issues. The advice and insights are directly beneficial to our work in the community, dealing with local businesses, farmers and individuals embarking on major life decisions like purchasing or selling property, making a will or coming into contact with family law matters.”

The conference was organised by Law Society Skillnet and the Mayo Solicitors’ Bar Association.
