NI: Committal proceedings against Soldier F begin

Committal proceedings against a former soldier charged with murder on Bloody Sunday began yesterday in Derry.

Soldier F is accused of the murder of James Wray and William McKinney, on January 30th, 1972, when British troops fired on civil rights demonstrators, killing 13 people.

The former paratrooper is also accused of the attempted murders of Joseph Friel, Joe Mahon, Patrick O’Donnell and Michael Quinn.

He also faces a supporting charge of the attempted murder of another, unknown person or persons.

Restrictions imposed on the hearing mean the media cannot publish any details.

The hearing will likely last a few weeks, with Soldier F’s anonymity remaining in place until further notice.
