Conor McGregor faces trademark fight

Mr McGregor has been trying to trademark words and phrases related to him to capitalise on his sporting success, The Irish Times reports.

He applied for European trademark for “Mystic Mac” following his fight against Floyd Mayweather last September, which saw him earn $100 million.

But last month it was opposed by Make Up Cosmetics (Mac) Inc, a New York-headquartered make-up company, which argues the products could be confused if Mr McGregor were to sell men’s toiletries.

It was also opposed by the German company that owns Mac Jeans.

The two firms have until June to provide additional evidence for their case at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), based in Spain.

The fighter is also seeking a European trademark for “ChampChamp”, a title he gave himself after having one belts in two separate weight divisions in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

That application was opposed last month by the Irish division of the company that owns the Champion brand of sportswear and US firm Cleats LLC which makes the Champ brand of footwear studs.

Other companies oppose his applications for “I Am Boxing” and “Notorious”.
