Courts and law firms closed on both sides of the border as Hurricane Ophelia hits Ireland

Courts on both sides of the Irish border have been closed today as the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia move across the island.
The Courts Service of Ireland confirmed late last night that all court sittings would be called off today.
It took until this morning for the Lord Chief Justice’s office to confirm that court sittings in Northern Ireland would finish by 12.30pm at latest.
Major Irish law firms, including William Fry and ByrneWallace, announced that they would close early or not open at all.
Mason Hayes & Curran announced that its office would be closed, but that its lawyers would still be “online and working”.
The Law Society of Ireland has been closed all day, while the Law Society of Northern Ireland closed its doors at 12 noon. The Bar of Ireland, The Bar of Northern Ireland and the Honorable Society of King’s Inns are also closed for the rest of the day.
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan cancelled citizenship ceremonies scheduled to take place in Dublin today, citing safety concerns and confirming that the ceremonies will be rescheduled later this year.
Most offices are expecting to open as normal tomorrow.
