Courts Service ‘exchanges documents’ on purchase of 5,000㎡ site for new Portaloise courthouse
The Courts Service of Ireland has exchanged key documents to take forward the acquisition of a 5,000㎡ site for a new courthouse in Portlaoise.
A recent meeting of Laois County Council was told that “contract documents relating to the sale/purchase of a site adjacent to the new Southern Circular Road have been exchanged”, the Leinster Express reports.
Local councillors have complained that the existing courthouse on Main Street in Portlaoise is one of the busiest in the State and disrupts the town centre.
John Mulholland, CEO of Laois County Council, told councillors in January that he would request an update from the Courts Service every three months.
Councillors were told at their latest meeting that “progress on the completion of conveyancing will continue to be managed by the Court Service/OPW”.
