Coward sentenced for assaulting cameraman outside court

A defendant who assaulted an RTÉ cameraman outside the Criminal Courts of Justice (CCJ) has been given a four-month suspended sentence.

Matthew Coward, 32, admitted assaulting Mícheál Mac Suibhne in December 2022 after he filmed him leaving the court building, RTÉ reports.

Coward was jailed for three years in November 2023 for setting up a camera to film young girls in a swimming pool changing room.

Judge Michele Finan yesterday imposed an additional four-month sentence, suspended for 12 months, in relation to the assault. The additional sentence will begin from his expected release in February 2026.
