Dozens of symphysiotomy cases to go before courts next year
Dozens of symphysiotomy cases are expected to come before the High Court next year despite the completion of a Government redress scheme, The Irish TImes reports.
Solicitor Colm MacGeehin said dozens of women had chosen to pursue litigation instead of accepting the redress scheme’s awards of up to €150,000.
His firm, MacGeehin Toale, has represented nearly 200 women who claim to have suffered symphysiotomies.
Mr MacGeehin told The Irish Times that between 20 and 30 cases would be “progressing to trial” from next year next year.
