Dr Yvonne Daly promoted to professor of law at DCU
Criminal law expert Dr Yvonne Daly has been promoted to professor of law at DCU School of Law and Government.
A graduate of University College Cork with a PhD from Trinity College Dublin, Professor Daly joined DCU as a lecturer in 2006 and was promoted to associate professor in 2013.
She is an expert on criminal evidence and procedure, with a specific research focus on effective criminal defence and the legal regulation of criminal investigations.
Professor Daly told Irish Legal News: “I have always loved working at DCU, since I started here in 2006, and have been supported throughout my career to date by excellent colleagues, mentors, and friends at the university, and beyond.”
She added: “DCU values research with societal impact, and I aim, through my research on effective criminal defence and the legal regulation of criminal investigations, to ensure fairness in the criminal process and the protection of individual rights, specifically in relation to suspects under criminal investigation.
“As current and former students will know, I am very interested in legal pedagogy also, and have experimented with different methods of teaching and assessment, including the use of mock voir dires to assess the law of evidence.
“In my new role as professor, I hope to continue working with my colleagues in law at DCU to enhance the university experience of our students, and to conduct societally important legal research.”
