NI: Edwards & Co aims to raise £15,000 for charity from home
Edwards & Co Solicitors is taking a novel approach to charity fundraising following the cancellation of major events like the London Marathon.
Staff at the Belfast-based firm are aiming to raise £15,000 for their charity of the year, Bowel Cancer UK, without leaving their homes.
On Sunday, the team will unite at 2.26pm to do 26 “somethings”, ranging from walking 26,000 steps to baking 26 cupcakes, while collecting donations on JustGiving.
Practice manager David McClurg said: “Bowel cancer is Northern Ireland’s second biggest cancer killer.
“Around 1,100 men and women are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in Northern Ireland, and 400 people die from the disease.
“If diagnosed at the earliest stage, bowel cancer is highly treatable, with a survival rate of more than 93 per cent over five years.
“However, poor awareness means that only one in 10 cases are detected at an early stage which often means it is too late to be treated.”
