Electoral commission publishes first annual report

An Coimisiún Toghcháin, Ireland’s independent electoral commission, has published its first-ever annual report.
The watchdog, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Ms Justice Marie Baker, was established on 9 February 2023 and the report covers the period from then until 31 December 2023.
Art O’Leary, chief executive of An Coimisiún Toghcháin, said: “An Coimisiún [has] laid its annual report for its establishment year before the Houses of the Oireachtas.
“In a busy year of exciting new firsts, we set about delivering a number of key electoral functions, such as the publication of the review of constituencies for Dáil Eireann and the European Parliament, while building an innovative organisation which can create greater public understanding, participation and trust in democracy and elections in this country.”
