EU supplies dozens of cars to Ukrainian police and prosecutors
Dozens of vehicles have been provided by the EU to Ukrainian police and prosecutors to support the investigation and prosecution of war crimes in territories liberated from Russian occupation.
The European Commission is supplying 30 cars to the National Police of Ukraine (NPU) and 20 cars to the Office of the Prosecutor General (OPG) of Ukraine, as part of a larger support scheme co-funded by the EU and the German government.
Saturday marked two years since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, said: “The European Union continues standing by Ukraine.
“Today, I am honoured to hand over these cars to the National Police of Ukraine and to the Office of the Prosecutor General. They will help authorities stabilise the territories that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have bravely liberated from illegal Russian occupation.
“This delivery comes shortly after the EU provided a modern mine-clearing machine to Ukraine. With this equipment we support Ukraine in making de-occupied land safe again.”
Josep Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security, added: “This delivery is another clear example of the wide-ranging European Union support to the Ukrainian security forces.
“These cars will help reinforce the presence of justice services in the liberated territories of Ukraine, to restore the rule of law and stability, to support the population, to make public institutions work again.
“They will also contribute to the EU’s support to Ukraine in establishing accountability for the international crimes committed by the Russian aggressor.”
