Eversheds Sutherland achieves certification for exemplary data protection
Eversheds Sutherland has been awarded internationally-recognised certification for its exemplary data protection and information security.
The global law firm now holds the ISO 27001 standard for information security management systems (ISMS) in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland for its Dublin and Belfast offices.
This achievement will ensure that Eversheds Sutherland follows best practices in protecting its data, improving its cyber security posture and business efficiency, while also ensuring that it meets legal and regulatory data protection obligations.
ISO 27001 is a best-practice approach that incorporates people, processes and technology, and mandates regular staff awareness education and training including technical and procedural measures to help organisations manage their information assets.
The certification can help protect systems against computer-assisted fraud, cyber-attack, sabotage and viruses. It uses risk assessment and business impact analysis to identify and manage risk to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information.
Alan Murphy, managing partner at Eversheds Sutherland Ireland, said: “Data protection affects all businesses and, now more than ever, our clients and prospective clients want to know about the safety of our IT systems.
“This highly valued information security certification will instil even greater confidence in the firm and further reassure our clients, and all our stakeholders, of our commitment to protect our clients’ data and adhere to international best practices.
“The certification will aid when tendering for new business; it demonstrates that we have the right controls and procedures in place to avoid breaches in information security. Additionally, the certification is part of a continuous improvement process, meaning we will be implementing further enhancements to the way we protect our data in the future.”
