Eversheds Sutherland appoints Seán Scally as head of energy
Global law firm Eversheds Sutherland has appointed Seán Scally as a commercial partner and head of energy in the firm’s Dublin office.
Mr Scally brings almost 15 years’ experience to the firm. He advises clients (developers, lenders, sponsors) on the development and financing of energy and infrastructure assets (conventional and renewable energy assets, data centres, telecoms, infrastructure, and PPPs), and advises buyers and sellers on the acquisition/disposal of these types of large-scale energy and infrastructure assets.
He also has a particular specialism in the areas of electricity and gas market regulation and trading, as well as having advised clients on a large number of corporate power purchase agreements in Ireland.
Before working in the legal sector, Mr Scally completed his degree in mechanical engineering and worked in the medical device industry.
Commenting on his appointment, Mr Scally said: “I am delighted to be joining the commercial department at Eversheds Sutherland as a new partner and head of energy. As companies continue to grow their footprint in Ireland, the energy sector remains vibrant resulting in a notable uplift in activity.
“With proven expertise and access to a global network, Eversheds Sutherland is the standout legal partner in this sector, for domestic and international clients, and I look forward to working with all my new colleagues in our Irish offices and across the globe, to maintain and grow the firm’s leading market position.”
Alan Connell, managing partner of Eversheds Sutherland Ireland, added: “As the largest and most established international law firm in Ireland, and a leader in the energy sector, we are seeing an increased demand from clients for alternative and renewable energy, closely aligned with ESG requirements.
“To date, we have worked with several providers on energy financing projects, particularly renewables.
“Staying ahead of our clients’ needs in this critical area is what sets us apart in our markets, and the breadth and depth of Seán’s expertise, along with his commercial savvy and understanding of client requirements, makes him a great addition to our talented energy sector-focused team.
“As we continue to grow our impressive offering, in line with our local and international ambitions, I am delighted to welcome Seán to the firm and I wish him great success in his new role.”
