Extradition of Michael Lynn to proceed
The Brazilian Supreme Court has ruled that there is no legal reason for further delays in extraditing former solicitor Michael Lynn to Ireland to face over two dozen charges relating to the collapse of his property and law business with debts of 80 million Euros to 10 different financial businesses.
Mr Lynn left Ireland in 2007 and travelled around Europe and the US before settling in Brazil which, at that time did not have an extradition treaty with Ireland.
Following the establishment of such a treaty, Mr Lynn has been fighting moves to extradite him since his arrest in 2013 on foot of an international arrest warrant.
A series of delaying tactics have been used by his legal team while he has been held in an overcrowded Brazilian jail.
But yesterday all five judges on the Supreme Court ruled that the latest petition by the Irish lawyer’s legal team had no chance of success.
A date for the extradition has still to be set and will be made after arrangements are concluded between the Brazilian and Irish authorities.
