Family and care referendums rejected
Both the family and care referendums were rejected by overwhelming majorities on Friday.
The family referendum, which would have inserted words into the Constitution recognising “durable relationships” other than those based on marriage, was rejected with 32.3 per cent of voters in favour and 67.7 per cent of voters against.
The care referendum, which would have replaced a controversial article referring to women’s place in the home with one recognising different forms of care, was rejected by an even larger margin, with 26.1 per cent of voters in favour and 73.9 per cent against.
