Flanagan lands in New York for week of St Patrick’s Day engagements

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has arrived in New York to take part in a programme of events to mark St Patrick’s Day.
During his seven-day visit, the minister will speak with senior US legal and judicial figures on developments in Ireland, including Brexit and on the Government-backed initiative to make Ireland into a key hub for international legal services after Brexit.
Representatives of the Law Society of Ireland arrived in Washington D.C. yesterday for similar engagements.
Mr Flanagan’s programme of events also includes key political, economic and policing engagements.
Tomorrow, he will deliver the keynote speech at a conference on Brexit convened by IrishCentral, the largest Irish-American news website.
He will also speak at the UN première of new film Women, Peace and Power and the launch of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ireland’s annual report, among other engagements.
On Saturday, he will meet the Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, and take part in St Patrick’s Day events alongside members of An Garda Síochána.
He will view NYPD facilities on Sunday and take part in meetings on Monday concerning organised crime and criminal assets seizures, as well as meeting NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill.
On Tuesday, he will take part in a working breakfast with legal and judicial contacts as well as a number of UN engagements before departing for Ireland.
