He will ask his Government colleagues to approve the drafting of a Family Law Bill to reduce the living apart period under section 5 of the Family Law (Divorce) Act 1996 to a minimum of two out of the preceding three years.

The bill will also include other minor legal reforms, such as updating the statutory definition of “living apart”, according to TheJournal.ie.

It ill also provide for the continuing recognition of divorces granted in Britain in the event of a no-deal Brexit, following a warning from the Bar Council of Ireland that legislative change is required.

Meanwhile, Mr Flanagan will also seek approval from the Cabinet for the publication of the Blasphemy Bill, which will remove blasphemy as a criminal offence.
