Eugene McCague

Mr McCague, who has served on the board since 2018, retired as a partner with Arthur Cox in 2017, having worked with the firm for more than 30 years.

He has extensive governance experience, having advised many boards of public, private, and state companies. He has also served as a director of companies in the private, voluntary and state sectors, including seven years on the board of the HSE.

Mr McCague said: “I am really honoured to be appointed as chair of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and I am looking forward to working with the board of directors in helping the organisation during my term in the years ahead.

“I am conscious that there is a lot of uncertainty for people with dementia and their family carers at the moment. The challenges from the impact of Covid-19 have made daily life considerably more difficult.

“I am well aware that our recent research report uncovered the extent of the plight and predicament facing people living with dementia and those who support them at the moment.

“However, I am certain that with the expertise of CEO Pat McLoughlin and the ASI’s dedicated and talented staff, volunteers and grassroots supporters we will play our part in ensuring that people with dementia and their families have a voice and have the supports they need and deserve.

“I am confident that we will succeed together in navigating the challenges ahead. I wish to pay tribute to John Clifford, who has been an outstanding chair over the past four years and has made an enormous contribution to the ASI.”
