Former NI Law Society chief appointed to charities watchdog
Alan Hunter, the former chief executive of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, has been appointed to the board of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland (CCNI).
Mr Hunter, who has held a number of leading positions within the Law Society and the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC), will serve on the board for a five-year term.
CCNI was established as the regulator of charities operating in Northern Ireland following the enactment of the Charities Act (Northern Ireland) 2008.
The main functions of CCNI are to keep a public register of charities; encourage, facilitate and monitor compliance with charity law; determine charity status; identify and investigate misconduct in charity administration and take remedial or protective action as necessary.
Mr Hunter announced his retirement from the Law Society in February 2019.
