Galway's top garda gets cycling law wrong

The most senior garda in Galway has promised to correct the record after wrongly claiming it was illegal to cycle two abreast, The Times reports.

Chief Superintendent Tom Curley told Galway County Council’s joint policing committee that cyclists could only travel in single file.

However, he was fiercely rebuked by campaigners who said the law allowed cyclists to travel two abreast and three when overtaking.

A clerk for Mr Curley has since told The Times that he had been mistaken and would correct the record at the next meeting.
