Gardaí arrest woman linked to supply of drugs to remand prisoners
Gardaí have arrested a woman in an ongoing operation to disrupt the supply of drugs and contraband to prisoners attending a court in Co Cork.
Officers said they searched a number of people in the vicinity of Mallow Court House under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 yesterday morning.
A women, aged in her 20s, was arrested after being found in possession of €500 of suspected cannabis herb. She was detained in Mallow Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, gardaí said.
A second woman, aged in her late teens, was found in possession of suspected cannabis, heroin and large quantity of tablets worth approximately €500, as well as two mini mobile phones, they added.
The second woman has not been arrested, but gardaí believe the items were destined for a prisoner in custody on remand and is continuing to investigate.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “All of the suspected drugs will be sent for analysis and files will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to these incidents.”
